A Sustainable Future?
As we move towards a more climate controlled future where there will be a greater need for green energy. The idea of burning solid fuel has become less popular in recent years, however this does not need to be the case with many manufacturers now designing DEFRA Exempt/ SIA Approved, Eco-Design products. These appliances, which if burnt correctly, fully comply with the government's clean air act and have undertaken stringent tests to prove this. Generally this means the manufacturers have limited the amount in which you can shut down the air supply on the appliance, resulting in a much cleaner burn. An Eco -Design stove will therefore always provide the minimum level of combustion air so that wood burns efficiently without producing unnecessary smoke or any other nasty gases which can be produced when the combustion procedure is incomplete.
Looking towards the future of solid fuel, we will be encouraging all of our customers to consider these types of appliances when purchasing a wood burning stove. We will also be sure that all customers have a good supply or source of logs which comply with the governments regulation and inevitably, when burnt, are much better for the environment.
When it comes to burning wood, it is often referred to as a carbon neutral process. This means that the amount of carbon dioxide released during the combustion process equals that to the amount of carbon dioxide it had absorbed whilst growing. In 2019 the government launched a scheme to encourage landowners (Especially farmers) to plant more trees using grants as incentives and generally across our country more action is being taken to encourage the planting of forests and re wilding vast areas. Therefore if managed correctly, wood burning stoves CAN be a sustainable source of heat.
